JUNE 11, 2009 -- Clearfield Inc. (search Lightwave for Clearfield) has announced that the Clearview Cassette, the building block of the FieldSmart Fiber Management Platform, is now shipping with a MPO/MTP configuration option. Clearfield says that the offering is unique in that while the MTP/MPO -- a multi-fiber connector for high-density interconnections -- provides for up to 12 ribbon fibers in a single port, its inclusion within the Clearview Cassette enables full plug-and-play flexibility and rapid turn-up time while maintaining the physical protection of the fiber within the integrated enclosure of the cassette.

The configuration option is engineered to scale across the network from inside plant to outside plant to access networks when MTP/MPO capabilities are preferred. Because the Clearview Cassette is a standalone device that integrates into all FieldSmart products, the user can stock a limited number of SKUs to support a variety of network requirements in rapid fashion, the company asserts.

Adding to the optical component capability of the Clearview Cassette, the additional option of the MTP/MPO adapter plate enables plug-n-play scenarios when scalability and alignment of capital investment to subscriber revenue are desired. A MTP/MPO pre-assembled cassette and a pre-terminated MTP/MPO assembly is all that is required to install and turn up fiber circuits across the network, the company says. Clearfield supports pre-terminated assemblies in all fiber constructions to interface into the cassette.

"Core to FieldSmart is the ability to scale your investment in capital equipment with the turn-up of revenue generating circuits," Johnny Hill, chief operating officer at Clearfield explains. "This enhancement goes the next step and provides the broadband service provider the option to go beyond traditional single-fiber connectivity while maintaining a consistent architecture across the network. Customer studies have validated that this consistent architecture reduces installation and service turn up time because familiarity of the product exists at all points of the network."

The MTP/MPO option of the Clearview Cassette is currently shipping.
