JUNE 16, 2008 -- Telecom service providers deploying fiber-to-the-premises (FTTP; search for FTTP) networks worldwide now have a new fiber enclosure supplier. CommScope Inc. (search for CommScope), a supplier of infrastructure products for communications networks, is launching a new line of fiber distribution hub (FDH) cabinets that consist of four fiber count configurations: 144, 288, 576, and 864.

"These are the first fiber distribution cabinets that CommScope is bringing to market, but we think they already offer significant benefits in ease of installation, resulting in lower installation costs," says Lindsay Allen, director of product line management, Cabinet Solutions.

The FDH cabinet line provides for total management hardware using a simple front access design -- termination, interconnection, and splitting are located in one compartment. Another unique feature is the open door alarm system. Service providers are immediately notified in the case of unauthorized access to the cabinet as soon as the door is opened. Technicians are dispatched, who can quickly assess and remedy the situation before damage is irreparable.

Trial models are available now, with general availability planned for later this year.

CommScope will display its new fiber distribution cabinets, as well other cabinet offerings for the telecommunications industry, at the NXTcomm08 trade show in Las Vegas from June 16-19, in booth #SU6211.
