Aug. 20, 2001--METRObility Optical Systems announced its new T1/E1 fiber connectivity models, designed to transport T1 or E1 traffic across fiber link distances up to 100km (62 miles).

METRObility Optical Systems announced its new T1/E1 fiber connectivity models, designed to transport T1 or E1 traffic across fiber link distances up to 100km (62 miles). The products eliminate the need for costly repeaters, reducing not only the amount of equipment needed but also the overall cost of ownership.

The new T1/E1 connectivity products incorporate remote and local testing of outgoing signals -- or loopback testing, built-in bit error rate testing (BERT), and intelligent software management. A service provider can remotely initiate loopback testing by using METRObility's NetBeacon platform. For remote troubleshooting, the on-board BERT routine can be used to determine line quality. All errors will generate fault messages for diagnostic action and can be accomplished without a technician visiting the far end location, resulting in significant time and cost savings.

"One of the most important features of our new T1/E1 products is the remote loopback testing capability," said John Finn, METRObility's product manager for fiber connectivity products. "Now, rather than sending a technician to diagnose a problem, the service provider can send traffic down the entire T1/E1 link and then read it back, right from the central office, to locate any errors or problems. "

The new products provide seamless high-speed integration of the T1 or E1 serial copper telecommunications lines into fiber environments. They extend distances up to 2km over multimode fiber optic cable and up to 100km over singlemode fiber optic cable. These innovative products optimize customers' time division multiplex (TDM) networks and provide seamless operation with low bit delay and signal retiming to ensure accurate data transmission to and from TDM segments within the network.

The T1/E1 fiber connectivity models are available for METRObility's Radiance and Lancast product lines in both standalone and modular versions, providing flexibility and supporting service providers' migration strategies. The products will be available beginning in the fourth quarter with list prices beginning at $749.
