AFL intros Fujikura 22S fusion splicer

Jan. 25, 2016
Hot on the heels of rolling out the Fujikura 62S fusion splicer (see "AFL offers Fujikura 62S active core alignment fusion splicer"), AFL has announced availability of another active cladding alignment fusion splicer, the Fujikura 22S. The unit features moveable v-grooves that are designed to limit splicer errors due to dust and other contaminants.

The Fujikua 62S also has removable sheath clamps to support use of fiber holders. Its large monitor is designed to enable a clear image even in bright sunlight. A two-camera observation system enables accurate fiber alignment and loss estimation calculations.

The splicer's ruggedized chassis offers shock, dust, and moisture protection in field-installation applications. Additional features include a battery that provides power for up to 200 splice cycles (including the application of the splice sleeve), and an electrode life that has been extended to 5,000 splices. The transit case and work tray provide multiple options for using workspace.

AFL says it will make software updates available via the Internet as they become available. The Fujikura 22S is fully compatible with the FUSEConnect line of fusion installable fiber-optic connectors.

"Fujikura continues to improve upon fusion splicing technology by incorporating newer features that make splicing easier," commented Greg Pickeral, product manager for AFL's fusion splicing systems. "The Fujikura 22S incorporates many of the advanced features of our more expensive models yet retains the quality and reliability they are known for."
