Arkwest deploying Calix AXOS E7-2 for transition to SDA architecture

Calix, Inc. (NYSE:CALX) said western Arkansas exchange carrier Arkwest Communications is deploying the AXOS E7-2 Intelligent Modular System throughout its entire service area to transition to a complete software-defined access (SDA) architecture.

Arkwest is preparing its GPON network for upgraded services such as managed Wi-Fi as part of a next-generation network transformation effort which includes new voice infrastructure and improved Calix optical network terminals (ONTs). According to Calix, Arkwest will deploy the AXOS platform throughout its whole network, resulting in one common operational procedure set, advancing its time to market with the new services.

AXOS will enable Arkwest to transform its legacy infrastructure into a next-generation network through a DevOps model, says Calix. Going forward, Arkwest will be able to deploy simple software advancements to incorporate automation, machine learning, artificial intelligence, and other new AXOS technologies into its own network.

Arkwest will have the ability to maintain an always-on network through the self-healing features of AXOS, while reducing the expense of truck rolls throughout their rural-serving area, Calix asserts. Additionally, Arkwest will have access to simplified operations and fast delivery of new services during the upgrade process through the AXOS future-proof network.

Calix AXOS E7-2 is already being used in Northwest Arkansas and Northeast Oklahoma by electric cooperative OzarksGo. The electric cooperative chose to deploy the Calix AXOS E7-2 and GigaCenters in October of 2017 (see "OzarksGo taps Calix AXOS E7-2 for NG-PON2").
