SEPTEMBER 26, 2006 -- Wave7 Optics (search for Wave7 Optics) has selected Mindspeed Technologies Inc.'s (search for Mindspeed) integrated burst-mode laser driver and limiting amplifier for use in its next-generation Trident7 Optical Access Platform for fiber-to-the-premises (FTTP) applications.
Wave7 Optics' extensive optical network terminal (ONT) portfolio includes models that comply with the IEEE 802.3ah (EFM) standard and support a variety of single-family unit, multi-dwelling unit and commercial applications.
"Mindspeed is establishing itself as a recognized leader in the PON market and was the obvious choice for our next-generation laser driver requirements. The cost savings and performance benefits offered by the Eye-Minder technology, in particular the easy multi power level control, will help us establish the Trident7 optical access platform as a leader in both the GPON and GEPON markets," said Joe Martin, vice president of product marketing at Wave7.
"Mindspeed has made significant investments in research and development to reduce the overall costs associated with fiber-optics module manufacturing. Our Eye-Minder technology streamlines module manufacturing by enabling the use of lower-cost lasers, while eliminating the need to do extensive temperature characterization and tuning during assembly," said Hasnain Bajwa, executive director of marketing at Mindspeed. "Wave7's selection of Mindspeed's solution demonstrates the end-to-end value customers perceive in our M02090."
The highly integrated, programmable M02090 burst-mode laser driver and limiting amplifier uses Mindspeed's proprietary Eye-Minder dual-loop technology, which reduces overall system costs by providing real-time compensation of laser aging and temperature effects. The M02090 offers a single, flexible approach that addresses multiple PON applications including BPON, GEPON, and GPON.
