SEPTEMBER 5, 2006 - Teknovus (search Teknovus), provider of Gigabit Ethernet passive optical network (search GEPON) chipsets for the deployment of triple-play services in fiber-to-the-home (FTTH) broadband access networks, has announced penetration of more than 20 Chinese provinces and cities.
Teknovus reports that it continues to win FTTH initiatives supporting advanced broadband services, including premium video such as IPTV, high-speed data, and VoIP, as well as legacy services covering cell site backhaul, leased line data, and TDM voice.
Teknovus' deployments in China are spread across the country, including the major cities of Beijing, Shanghai, and Wuhan, representing three of China's four largest municipalities. Other significant deployments include the province of Shanxi and the city of Fuzhou in the province of Fujian. Carrier wins include Beijing Netcom, Beijing Telecom, Shanghai Telecom, Wuhan Telecom, Hangzhou Telecom, Fuzhou Telecom, Shanxi Taiyuan Netcom, Shanxi Mobile, Yunnan Telecom, Guizhou Telecom, and Hubei Netcom.
Teknovus is fulfilling Chinese carriers' strict quality-of-service (QoS) requirements for end-to-end traffic management, supporting advanced video services along with high-speed data and voice services. In addition, Teknovus' chips support management of multiple traffic flows, providing carriers with the flexibility to develop triple-play service packages while guaranteeing subscriber-selected service level agreements (SLAs).
"It is a great honor to continue to win deployments in China," asserts Dr. Rex Naden, CEO of Teknovus. "Chinese carriers are accelerating their FTTH initiatives, taking advantage of GEPON's clear advantages. We are beginning to test quad-play GEPON networks, enabling the Chinese carriers to move all of their existing services to an Ethernet-based PON network, providing significant reductions in high OPEX and CAPEX associated with multiple overlay networks," he explains. "Our solution supports traditional voice and data, such as E1 and leased line, as well as cell-site backhaul."
Teknovus is continuing to expand its China-based team with additional marketing and technical support personnel to meet the Chinese carriers' major FTTx initiatives.
