German FTTx service provider vitroconnect is installing the Tellabs 7100 Optical Transport System in a backbone network with more than 10,000 km of fiber, Tellabs (NASDAQ:TLAB) says.
vitroconnect operates a nationwide open access backbone in Germany to provide its customers with high bandwidth internet connectivity mainly based on FTTx. Among the customers are regional and city providers as well as nationwide ISPs and energy suppliers.
Use of the ROADM-based WDM system will provide reliability and flexibility as vitroconnect enhances its fiber-optic network to keep pace with increasing bandwidth demands, Tellabs says.
A vitroconnect spokesman concurred. "We need to be able to fully trust our backbone network. Tellabs' solution provides not only reliability, but it can also meet the unpredictable bandwidth needs of our customers," said Michael Lakenbrink, head of sales at vitroconnect. "In addition, we can cut capital and operating expenses by seamlessly adding new services and locations in a matter of hours, not weeks."
As part of the deal, Tellabs partnered with Dimension Data, an ICT services solutions provider. Tarcisio Ribeiro notes, "The Tellabs 7100 system provides the heart of the backbone network, and Dimension Data complements the solution with services and technical expertise to support the local requirements in Germany."
