JULY 1, 2008 -- Alcatel-Lucent (search for Alcatel-Lucent) says it has signed a new frame agreement with French alternative service provider Neuf Cegetel (search for Neuf Cegetel) for the deployment of a GPON FTTH network in Paris. The network will target more than 100,000 apartments. The project is part of an initiative led by the Paris social housing office OPAC to bridge the digital divide in the French capital.
Neuf Cegetel will offer triple play services that include 18 television channels that are HDTV-ready, high-speed Internet access, and VoIP. Alcatel-Lucent will also provide Neuf Cegetel with installation and commissioning services in addition to equipment.
As part of the frame agreement, Alcatel-Lucent will supply and provide project management for the deployment of its 7342 Intelligent Services Access Manager Fiber to the User (ISAM FTTU), leveraging GPON technology to multiplex voice, video, and data services onto a single fiber and support a 2.5-Gbit/sec downstream capacity. Alcatel-Lucent also will offer a range of in-house optical network terminals (ONTs).
