JUNE 2, 2008 -- GPON semiconductor and software provider BroadLight (search for Broadlight) today announced that Taiwanese-based XAVi Technologies Corp. has selected the BL2348 Residential Gateway (RG) SoC for its new line of CPE devices. XAVi says its new GPON CPE equipment delivers unparalleled cost savings and performance benefits by combining the modem and home router into a single residential gateway product.
"The BL2348 brings the power of GPON directly into the home," contends Raanan Gewirtzman, CEO of BroadLight. "Companies such as XAVi can eliminate 50 percent of the required GPON equipment and at the same time provide significantly more performance than DSL or cable technologies."
"We chose BroadLight's BL2348 because it was the only solution that enabled us to meet the cost and performance targets outlined by service providers," reports Wenston Lee, CEO of XAVi Technologies. "In addition, BroadLight is the only PON semiconductor company that has continually delivered products on schedule, and this flawless execution will enable us to deliver equipment in time for the upcoming volume GPON rollouts."
The BL2348 GPON RG SoC provides the performance, integration and functions required for the new breed of cost-effective residential gateways connecting the high-speed digital home to FTTH services. The BL2348 leverages its field proven PONRunner network processor to perform bridging and routing functions with throughputs of 1Gbps. Its embedded GPON MAC, integrated VoIP DSP, Ethernet switch and interfaces for WiFi and USB creates a cost-effective single chip solution in a 19x19mm package.
