NOVEMBER 3, 2008 -- Allied Telesis (search for Allied Telesis) today announced that independent communications holding company SureWest Communications (search for SureWest Communications) has approved the iMG626MOD for active fiber-to-the-home (FTTH) deployment in Sacramento by SureWest's operating subsidiaries there.

Allied Telesis has provided Intelligent Multiservice Gateways (iMGs) to SureWest for FTTH since 2004. After extensive testing and field trials of the iMG600 MOD, SureWest says it has chosen this fourth generation of iMG.

"We are pleased to have our latest evolution of home gateway being deployed by SureWest," asserts Bill Allen, vice president of sales and operations. "They are a recognized industry leader in FTTH deployments, and their decision to use our iMG MOD in their deployment is an affirmation that our innovations in achieving OPEX savings through the iMG MOD reflect industry needs," he says.

SureWest offers a triple play of television, Internet, and telephone through IP-based technology in Sacramento. Its FTTH network delivers the triple play of services through a fiber pipe that distributes 100 Mbits/sec of bandwidth to a customer's home. Products delivered over this network include HDTV; multi-stream HD DVR service; what the company claims is the fastest symmetrical Internet speed in the nation at up to 10-, 20-, or 50 Mbits/sec both uploading and downloading; and an interactive VoIP phone service with over 22 features.

"Allied Telesis' gateway reliability offers a significant OPEX benefit and savings for broadband providers," notes SureWest senior vice president and CTO Bill DeMuth. "We know that once we install them into our network, we are helping to provide our customers with superior performance and enhanced reliability. Two additional benefits of the iMG MOD that appeal to us are the integrated HPNA and its extensive remote diagnostics. In addition to decreasing install times, the iMG MOD reduces truck rolls for in-home wiring issues," he adds. "Both are significant factors in gaining new subscribers and maintaining long-term customer relationships."
