Alcatel-Lucent (Euronext Paris and NYSE:ALU) says it has won a contract from SaskTel to supply Saskatchewan’s primary carrier with GPON equipment for SaskTel’s fiber to the premises (FTTP) roll out. The FTTP deployment is part of SaskTel’s Next Generation Broadband Access Program (see “SaskTel broadband program to include FTTP”) announced in April. Alcatel-Lucent also will supply aggregation and optical transport equipment to support delivery of the broadband services.
SaskTel will leverage several elements of Alcatel-Lucent’s High Leverage Network portfolio:
- 1830 Photonic Service Switch (PSS)
- 7750 Service Router (SR)
- 5620 Service Aware Manager (SAM)
- 7342 Intelligent Services Access Manager Fiber-to-the-User (ISAM FTTU).
The systems house also will supply its 5780 Dynamic Services Controller (DSC) for subscriber management and policy control.
“As evidenced by our 2011 network investment plans, SaskTel is committed to being the best at connecting people to their world by providing the best customer experience through our superior networks, exceptional service, advanced solutions and applications,” said Ron Styles, SaskTel president and CEO. “We chose Alcatel-Lucent’s High Leverage Network architecture because it enables us to deliver a full range of differentiated services enabled by the latest innovations in wireline broadband access, IP and optical technologies.”
