Telstra selects Viavi MTS 5800-100G tester for fiber-optic network installation and maintenance

Viavi Solutions says that Australian incumbent service provider Telstra has chosen its MTS 5800-100G network test platform to improve 100-Gbps fiber-optic network installation and maintenance capabilities throughout Australia.

Viavi Solutions (NASDAQ: VIAV) says that Australian incumbent service provider Telstra has chosen its MTS 5800-100G network test platform to improve 100-Gbps fiber-optic network installation and maintenance capabilities throughout Australia.

The test instrument fulfills Telstra's need for a small, portable platform that could accommodate growing 100G requirements (see "Telstra taps Ericsson/Ciena team for end-to-end fiber-optic network upgrade") and offer the flexibility to test other bitrates as well, Viavi says. The service provider also wanted a dual-port system that could accommodate QSFP28 optical modules to adapt cost-effectively to anticipated network evolution.

"We are committed to building a brilliant connected future for our customers, because we believe greater connectivity delivers more opportunity. Viavi's future-proof testing solution allows us to test legacy network equipment in the field while making a smooth evolution to 100G technology throughout our entire network, enabling higher speeds and an enhanced quality of experience for our customers," said Richard Moretti, Telstra technology specialist. "We were impressed with the small form factor of the Viavi MTS 5800-100G solution as well as its versatility and intuitive user interface."

Viavi says the MTS 5800-100G can meet test requirements in metro/core, data center interconnect, and business services applications. The company acknowledged the assistance of Elite Velocity Partner CoverTel, which assisted in demonstrating the MTS 5800-100G tester to Telstra's subject matter experts and providing training.
