TheSwissIX Internet Exchange, the country's largest, has installed the Coriant Groove G30 data center interconnect (DCI) platform to support 100-Gbps connects between core network sites. SwissIX chose the Groove G30 after what a press release described as a "rigorous evaluation and testing of competing solutions."

The internet exchange operates at nine locations in Zurich, Basel, and Bern. It serves more than 170 connected peers.

"This upgrade represents an important milestone in the SwissIX 2020 infrastructure project as we future-proof our network for the surging bandwidth demands of our peers," said Ulf Kieber, president of the SwissIX Internet Exchange. "The best-in-class Groove solution not only gives us tremendous efficiencies in terms of power and space, but also enables us to expand end-user connectivity to 100G while laying the foundation for core network scalability to 200G and beyond."

The Groove G30 was selected for density, low power consumption, and reliability, according to the companies. Introduced last December (see "Coriant Groove G30 1RU data center interconnect platform offers 3.2 Tbps"), the programmable 1RU system offers 3.2 Tbps of capacity and support of metro, regional, and long haul DCI applications.
