NEXTDC taps Ciena’s Waveserver for data center interconnect

Aug. 18, 2020
NEXTDC supports more than 600 clouds, carrier networks, and ICT service providers in Australia.

Australian data center as a service provider NEXTDC Ltd. has chosen the Waveserver platform from Ciena (NYSE:CIEN) for its data center interconnect (DCI) requirements. IT solutions provider Over the Wire will assist with the deployment.

NEXTDC supports more than 600 clouds, carrier networks, and ICT service providers in Australia. It needed new DCI platforms to upgrade and re-architect its network to enhance support for its customers’ hybrid cloud environments and improve performance and “business outcomes,” according to Ciena.

“NEXTDC plays a critical role in today’s climate where data centers support Australia’s economy by accelerating digital-first strategies,” stated Sean Rinas, head of network operations at NEXTDC. “Ciena’s DCI platform will enable us to provide the agile foundation our customers need to thrive in a competitive marketplace and COVID-19 environment.”

“Over the Wire is excited to work with NEXTDC on this project, helping to develop a solution that is purpose built to support the tremendous growth the market is seeing in cloud and connectivity solutions,” added Scott Smith, Over the Wire’s CEO. “As organizations continue to accelerate their journey to the cloud, it’s critical they have direct access to the infrastructure that NEXTDC continues to build, enabling them to connect to the platforms and networks powering their business privately, reliably and securely.”

In addition to the assistance Over the Wire will provide, NEXTDC also will leverage Ciena Professional Services for end-to-end network design and a customized delivery model that will ensure rapid deployment and adherence to pandemic guidelines.
