Lumen will deploy AWS technology and provide fiber connections between the company’s data centers.

On October 30, Lumen Technologies announced that it has partnered with Amazon Web Services (AWS) and will deploy AWS technologies, including AI, machine learning, and security, to modernize its applications and systems. Lumen will also provide dedicated infrastructure with private fiber connections between AWS data centers through its Private Connectivity FabricSM solution, and it reports that the enhanced AWS network will enable high-bandwidth connections that can facilitate the development of generative AI applications and the training of AI models.

Kate Johnson, president and CEO of Lumen Technologies, said the networks supporting the advancement of AI need to be dynamic and responsive.

“AWS wants their customers to thrive in the AI economy, and this network expansion will help enable that,” said Johnson in a press release. “As the trusted network for AI, Lumen is using next-generation fiber to help AWS deliver high-bandwidth solutions that will allow their customers to experience and deliver AI’s full potential.”

Matt Garman, CEO of AWS, said the future of AI innovation will require flexible networking and secure, scalable cloud infrastructure.

“Together, AWS and Lumen will enable high-performance network connections that ensure customers across every industry can build and deliver compelling, secure, and reliable AI applications at scale,” said Garman in the same press release.

Lumen also reported that it is moving its IT and product platforms to AWS.
