Expedient said it has upgraded its network backbone to enable 100-Gbps connectivity among several of its data centers, as well as carrier neutral points of presence (POPs) used for IP transit and peering interconnection. Over $1.8 million has been invested in infrastructure, accelerated by customers' growing data replication requirements, including Expedient's Push Button Disaster Recovery, says the company.
The provider of cloud computing and data centerinfrastructure as a service (IaaS) began design work for the physical fiber upgrade almost a year ago. By July 2018, all segments will be complete, expanding Expedient's network backbone capacity by 10 times and implementing redundant connectivity to hyperscale cloud providers like Amazon Web Services, Inc. (AWS) and Microsoft Azure, and between Expedient data centers.
The upgrade includes adding new Juniper Networks MX Series 3D Universal Edge Routers to deliver enhanced broadband network gateway functions and integrated routing, switching, and security services (see "Juniper Networks adds service delivery features to MX Series 3D Universal Edge Router"). According to Expedient, the platform provides versatility for high-level routing and basic switching.

"Together, Juniper and Expedient are helping customers tackle the day-to-day complexities that they face, with the ultimate goal being the promise of building infrastructure that is largely invisible to users."
Operating in Pittsburgh, PA; Baltimore, MD; Boston, MA; Cleveland, OH; Columbus, OH; Indianapolis, IN; and Memphis, TN, Expedient's data centers are Health Insurance Portability and Accountability Act (HIPAA) as well as the Payment Card Industry Data Security Standard (PCI DSS) compliant.
