Interxion Holding N.V. (NYSE: INXN) is expanding its global cloud platform in Europe. The European provider of carrier and cloud-neutral colocation data center services says it will construct new data centers in Marseille ("MRS2") and Frankfurt ("FRA13") and further expand its Vienna data center.
Acting as a gateway between Europe, the Middle East, Africa and Asia, MRS2 will provide 4,300 square meters of equipped space, and more than 7 MW of customer available power when completely build out, says Interxion.
In September of 2016, Telia Carrier established a point of presence (PoP) within Interxion's existing Marseilles data center (see "Telia Carrier adds Marseilles PoPs as gateways to submarine networks") to provide connectivity to a pair of submarine network systems on the city’s shores. With increased network capacity demands from the submarine cable landing, Interxion believes its presence in Marseilles will continue to gain strength.
Interxion says the first building phase of MRS2 will add approximately 900 square meters and is scheduled to open in 1Q 2018. The second phase will add approximately 1,800 square meters and is scheduled to open in 3Q 2018. The company plans to spend about 76 million euros in capital expenditures on the data center.
Meanwhile, FRA13 will be constructed in two phases, providing 4,800 square meters of equipped space and 10 MW of customer-available power once the build out is complete. The first phase of FRA13, which is expected to provide approximately 2,300 square meters, is planned to open in 4Q 2018, says the provider. The second phase will add about 2,500 square meters, and is scheduled to open in 1Q 2019. The company anticipates spending about 90 million euros in capital expenditures on the FRA13 data center.
As Vienna continues to be an important gateway market providing cloud and connectivity services to central and eastern Europe, Interxion plans to expand its VIE2 data center there. Interxion will add another two phases ("VIE2.7" and "VIE2.8") together with upgraded power for its VIE2 data center.
When finished, these phases will add approximately 2,300 square meters and about 6 MW of customer power to VIE2. The first phase is expected to provide about 300 square meters, and is planned to open in 4Q 2017, says the Interxion. Another 700 square meters are scheduled to be available in 2Q 2018, and 600 square meters scheduled in 3Q 2018. The company anticipates spending about 45 million euros in capital expenditures on the VIE2 expansion.
