Reichle & De-Massari targets BEF 60 splice cabinet at hyperscale data centers

Reichle & De-Massari USA (R&M) says its Building Entrance Facility 60 (BEF 60) splice cabinet for hyperscale data center applications offers a capacity of 23,040 fiber-optic splices. Each of its 60 stackable splice drawers supports splicing and management of 384 fibers.

Reichle & De-Massari USA (R&M) says its Building Entrance Facility 60 (BEF 60) splice cabinet for hyperscale data center applications offers a capacity of 23,040 fiber-optic splices. Each of its 60 stackable splice drawers supports splicing and management of 384 fibers.

Additional new features of the BEF 60 include:

  • An open architecture that enables removal of housing parts and splice trays to lessen the assembly weight and provide easy access to the rear wall and cable entries.
  • Stable wall mounting brackets that hold the cabinet and enable the BEF 60 to be assembled flush with or at a distance from the wall. The latter configuration leaves space for rear cable entries. Existing conduits also can be covered.
  • A High Count Fanout Kit (HC FOK) enables the flat breakout box to distribute the fiber bundles of cables with up to 6,912 fibers to the splice trays. A U-shaped guide supports fiber distribution and protects the fibers. The kits can be stacked and are assembled in the rear wall.
  • The SD-08 splice drawer features a transparent plastic cover to protect the fibers. The cover enables technicians to examine the contents of the tray simply by looking through the transparent cover.
  • The cable entry ports can be removed and split for installation convenience. The design eliminates the need for time-consuming threading through holes, R&M says.

In addition, as the BEF 60 can be stacked, use of the splice cabinet reduces space requirements and maximizes the permissible length of cables coming from the outside. The rigid high-count fiber cables are attached to the wall and, if required, inserted into the BEF through the rear wall. In this way, up to 100,000 splices can be accommodated in a very limited space, R&M asserts.
