Telia Carrier announced last week that it now has a point of presence (PoP) in downtown Minneapolis within Cologix's 511 11th Street data center. Telia Carrier announced last week that it now has a point of presence (PoP) in downtown Minneapolis within Cologix's 511 11th Street data center. The new PoP is part of an overall expansion of Telia Carrier's 100-Gbps AS1299 fiber-optic network in North America (see, for example, "Telia Carrier taps Infinera for new West Coast route, US metro needs").

The fiber-optic network services provider will use the PoP to offer carriers and content and cloud providers with wholesale IP transit, Ethernet, and IPX services in and out of the city. Telia Carrier sees the Minneapolis/St. Paul market as attractive, describing it as the second largest economic center in the Midwest and home to 18 Fortune 500 companies.

"As Telia Carrier continues to expand into Tier 2 and Tier 3 markets, Minneapolis provides an ideal location within the region for establishing a PoP," said Art Kazmierczak, director of business development, Americas at Telia Carrier Inc. "Cologix has become a gateway to edge markets for Telia, with Minneapolis becoming the fourth market where the companies have partnered. Enhancing the local ecosystem, Telia Carrier will support increased demand for high capacity services, providing high performance and reliable connectivity for online video, cloud, gaming and other applications."

Telia Carrier's global fiber-optic network connects more than 200 PoPs across Europe, North America, Asia, and the Middle East. Its North America presence now includes 63 PoPs.
