Nuage Networks, the software-defined networking (SDN) venture of Alcatel-Lucent (Euronext Paris and NYSE: ALU), and switch vendor Arista Networks Inc. (NYSE: ANET) say they will collaborate to promote open networking within IT cloud networks.
The two companies say they have already been able to help customers build programmable underlays and automated SDN overlay infrastructure using such protocols as VxLAN and OVSDB. They now will bring an integrated offering to market starting immediately. The joint offering is compatible with OpenStack as well as "any other" cloud management systems as well as what the companies describe as "a varied ecosystem of hypervisors."
"The integration of Arista's VxLAN programmable platforms with Nuage Virtualized Services Platform (VSP) enables scalable and automated software-defined cloud networks," explained Anshul Sadana, senior vice president, customer engineering, at Arista. "We are pleased to collaborate with a leading SDN innovator like Nuage Networks to deliver seamless workload portability within and across data centers,"
The companies add that Nuage Networks' Virtualized Services Assurance Platform (VSAP), in combination with Arista's EOS network management system, will see that the mapping and correlation of policies are combined with visibility of the network infrastructure to ensure timely fault isolation and correction.
Said Sunil Khandekar, CEO of Nuage Networks, "Working closely with programmable platform providers like Arista, we can now offer customers a powerful best-of-breed solution of policy-driven SDN overlay and DC underlay for building highly automated and responsive private and public clouds for all their applications and workloads."
This is Arista Networks' second recent data center collaboration. The company announced a data center interconnect partnership with Infinera at the beginning of the month (see "Data center interconnect focus of Infinera, Arista Networks partnership").
