The new internet exchange (IX) is the latest step in the two companies’ collaborative efforts to establish IXs in Asia.

HGC Global Communications Ltd. and AMS-IX say they have collaborated to launch AMS-IX Singapore. The new internet exchange (IX) is the latest step in the two companies’ collaborative efforts to establish IXs in Asia.

The carrier-neutral AMS-IX Singapore resides in the Equinix SG data center in Singapore. Along with AMS-IX Hong Kong, the new IX will be able to meet the requirements of content delivery networks, application providers, cloud providers, and telecom carriers in Australia, Cambodia, India, Indonesia, Malaysia, Philippines, Vietnam, South Korea, Thailand, and other countries. Launch members for AMS-IX Singapore include a cloud service provider, an IPv6 network provider, and hyperscale OTTs.

AMS-IX Singapore is the latest result of the collaboration between the two companies. HGC is the commercial partner for AMS-IX Bay Area and AMS-IX Chicago in the U.S. and AMS-IX Hong Kong in Hong Kong. HGC says it plans to expand on such work to open new peering locations, especially within Asia.

“Over the last 10 years, HGC and AMS-IX have closely worked together to help connect millions of businesses and users across Asia, Europe, and the Americas,” said Ravindran Mahalingam, senior vice president, international business of HGC. “We are extremely proud of the achievements we conquered together, and the launch of AMS-IX Singapore is yet another steppingstone in our ongoing quest to connect users to a reliable, scalable, and future-proof infrastructure designed for the metaverse era.”

“With this expansion HGC and AMS-IX show their commitment to enhance the Internet by increasing connectivity through public peering,” added Onno Bos, international partnership director at AMS-IX. “AMS-IX members, customers, and the internet community in Singapore will benefit from wider options to interconnect with each other across the metros of Asia thereby optimizing latency and cost and significantly improving user experience.”
