Telia Carrier expands in Mexico with links to Equinix data centers
Telia Carrier says it has added two points of presence (PoPs) in Mexico. Both PoPs, one serving the Mexico City (Queretaro) metro and the other Monterrey, leverage Equinix International Business Exchanges (IBXs). The PoPs extend access to Telia Carrier’s global AS1299 fiber backbone as well as the service provider’s IP Transit, Cloud Connect, DDoS Mitigation, Ethernet, and IPX offerings.
Telia Carrier notes that Monterrey hosts several Mexican, U.S. and international companies in the financial services, manufacturing, and automotive industries as well as being the site of major universities. Fast-growing Querétaro supports companies in the logistics services, aircraft manufacturing and maintenance, call centers, the automotive and machinery industries, according to Telia Carrier. The company announced establishment of a PoP there in 2018 (see "Telia Carrier establishes PoP in city of Queretaro to connect Mexican providers to AS1299 backbone").
The service provider had initially announced the new PoPs in late August, but has now identified them as leveraging the Equinix IBXs. “Adding two points of presence (PoPs) with Equinix in Monterrey and Querétaro support the growing demand for Telia Carrier’s wholesale and enterprise services in the region,” said Luis Velasquez, Mexico business manager, Telia Carrier. “Providing a trusted connectivity choice to the market and award-winning customer focus continues Telia Carrier’s success in this region, and with Equinix globally. New customers are already clamoring for additional services to connect enterprise workloads, digital content and gamers locally and internationally.”
“The availability of Telia Carrier’s services at our Monterrey and Queretaro facilities will enable current and future customers greater options to process, store and distribute larger volumes of latency-sensitive data and applications at the digital edge, closer to end users and local markets. It will also enable Equinix to enrich its ecosystem of nearly 10,000 customers that come to Equinix to directly connect to each other within a secure, private and proximate environment,” added Amet Novillo, Mexico managing director at Equinix.
