MACOM MAOM-37051A Quad Channel CDR with Integrated EML Driver

March 17, 2015
The MAOM-37051A integrates a quad-channel 25/28-Gbps CDR with a high output voltage driver. This can drive EMLs with voltages up to 2.5 Vpp, which means that the product can be used with the complete range of EMLs on the market today.
With a total power dissipation of only 1.1 W and a drive voltage of 2.5 Vpp this quad CDR and EML driver provides the high performance and low power dissipation necessary for transceiver manufacturers to meet the stringent requirements of next-generation form factors such as CFP4 and QSFP28. Judge's Comment.

The MAOM-37051A integrates a quad-channel 25/28-Gbps CDR with a high output voltage driver. This can drive EMLs with voltages up to 2.5 Vpp, which means that the product can be used with the complete range of EMLs on the market today. This quad-channel reference-free CDR has adjustable rates to cover 100GbE, Infiniband, OTU4, and Fibre Channel applications. It includes adaptive input equalization and diagnostic features such as PRBS generator and error checker.

The 37051A has a 1.5 pp output voltage, which MACOM says results in the lowest power EML-based solution available for small form factor modules. It comes in an 11x7-mm surface mount package with integrated bias chokes that help the EML minimize loss between the driver and modulator. The size, power requirements, and functionality make it suitable for CFP4 and QSFP28 optical solutions, both of which have stringent power and size constraints.
