Cyan N-Series Open Hyperscale Transport Platform (OHTP)

March 17, 2015
While hyperscale cloud and Internet content providers use open source technologies and commercial off-the-shelf (COTS) hardware wherever possible, increasing bandwidth between multiple data centers has often required the deployment of proprietary, vertically integrated optical platforms.
The platform provides high capacity to data centers in a small, rack-mounted chassis, and leverages 16QAM modulation to transmit 200G on a single wavelength. Judge's Comment.

While hyperscale cloud and Internet content providers use open source technologies and commercial off-the-shelf (COTS) hardware wherever possible, increasing bandwidth between multiple data centers has often required the deployment of proprietary, vertically integrated optical platforms. Cyan says that its N-Series OHTP is designed to enable 100G cloud and data center interconnect networks. It uses a modular, COTS-based hardware architecture with an open, SDN-enabled Linux network operating system to leverage best-in-breed optical networking technologies and standards as they emerge.

Specifically, the N-Series currently can deliver 800 Gbps of total capacity (client + line) in a 1RU shelf. A rack can support up to 34 Tbps, which Cyan says is 60% greater capacity than its competitors. There can be four 100G client ports, while the solution uses 100 W of power per 100G of transport.
