The 844G GigaCenter and its RF-enabled sibling, the 854G, are service delivery platforms that will extend the access network into the home and act as location for control of the so called gigabit experience. Broadband connectivity is supported across wireless and wireline devices, and subscriber voice, data, and video services are managed. A 2.5 GPON optical interface is integrated with switching and routing functions to manage premises network traffic at speeds up to 1 Gbps.
Service interfaces include 802.11ac WiFi and four Gigabit Ethernet ports for IPTV video and data services; two integrated voice lines supporting carrier-grade VoIP and network-based TDM voice circuits; a USB port for home networking services; and an option for RF video. The 802.11ac "wave 2" 5-GHz-band WiFi technology is complemented with 4x4 Multi-User Multiple Input Multiple Output (or MU-MIMO) technology with beamforming. Calix delivers this over a fiber access infrastructure. The GigaCenters, therefore, deliver whole-home coverage with simultaneous dual-band 2.4-GHz and 5-GHz operation, the company says.
