In the era of LTE/LTE-A, increasing coverage density in the traditional way results in high site cost. So more operators have considered concentrating BBUs to lower site cost. However, how to carry CPRI service between the RRU and BBU is a big challenge.

The OptiX OSN810 full outdoor CPRI service convergence platform is a WDM-based, full outdoor, active transport system that is applicable to CPRI service transmission. The OptiX OSN810 is used to implement the CPRI transport solution. The OptiX OSN810 can be used in metro edge nodes and supports point-to-point and chain networking. It supports 1.25G to 10G CPRI services on the client side and 50G and 100G capacities on the line side.

Judge's comment: "I found the OSN810 to be a very good purpose-built device for CPRI transport. The feature that stood out was that the device was fully outdoor ready. As C-RAN and small cells proliferate, we expect the pair gain requirements to get pushed closer to the edge, where space and power are less available."
