Thanks to the integrated maximum likelihood sequence estimation (MLSE) equalization technology, the CFP modules adopt off-the-shelf optical components for 28G NRZ transmission, enabling a cost point much lower than coherent alternatives.
Oplink says its 100G 4x28G MLSE CFP platform offers a cost-effective solution for 100G metro network and data center interconnect applications. Thanks to the integrated maximum likelihood sequence estimation (MLSE) equalization technology, the CFP modules adopt off-the-shelf optical components for 28G NRZ transmission, enabling a cost point much lower than coherent alternatives. The four 28G optical lanes of each CFP module are operated at DWDM channels on the ITU grid. The wavelength domain multiplexing capability enables up to 2-Tbps data throughput in metro/aggregation applications.

The CFP modules support customers such applications as:

  • Modest OSNR performance for metro application
  • 40-km point-to-point transmission
  • 80-km point-to-point transmission with integrated EDFA/DCM.

Judge's comment: "This product fills an important segment of the connectivity hierarchy with a pluggable, low-cost, relatively low-power, DWDM solution for 100-Gbps transmission."
