April 14, 2005 Mahwah, NJ and Munich, Germany -- ADVA Optical Networking recently announced its corporate membership in Internet2, a U.S.- advanced networking consortium led by the research and higher education communities. The company joins more than 60 other technology companies and service providers in working with the consortium's university and government members to develop and deploy network services and capabilities for academic research and the Internet community at large.
"Optical networks, on-demand grid computing, and super-computing infrastructures will play pivotal roles in enabling academic researchers, and eventually businesses, to affordably and flexibly share and access high-bandwidth applications and information resources," observes Jill Arnold, director of member and partner relations with Internet2. "Our community looks forward to collaborating with ADVA Optical Networking, a company with in-depth experience in each of these areas."
"ADVA's new membership in Internet2 results from our focus on the education and healthcare sectors, and our responsibility to deliver best-of-breed networks to these customers," adds Brian P. McCann, chief marketing and strategy officer at ADVA. "In addition, we believe we have valuable insights to offer our Internet2 colleagues in key optical networking technologies such as CWDM, DWDM, and 10Gbit/sec Ethernet."
According to a press release, ADVA engineers are already contributing to the consortium's Hybrid Optical and Packet Infrastructure (HOPI) initiative, which examines the requirements and performance of scalable "next-generation" backbone networks that combine the best aspects of packet and optical technologies.
The company will address the Internet2 community about metro/regional optical network architectures for Internet applications at the Spring 2005 Internet2 Member Meeting, held May 2 - 4 in Arlington, Virginia.
