Digital Teleport Inc. (DTI--St. Louis, MO) awarded two contracts to Pirelli Cables and Systems

Digital Teleport Inc. (DTI--St. Louis, MO) awarded two contracts to Pirelli Cables and Systems North America (Columbia, SC) valued at $240 million. In the first contract, valued at $100 million, DTI agreed to purchase from Pirelli 80% of the wavelength-division multiplexing equipment it needs for completing the remaining approximately 16,500 mi of the planned 18,500-mi coast-to-coast DTI network. The second contract, valued at $140 million, is for the purchase of fiber-optic cable for about one-half of the fiber routes DTI plans to construct on its network. DTI`s digital fiber-optic network will consist of 19 regional rings interconnecting cities in 37 states.
