July 27, 2005 Atlanta, GA -- USCarrier Telecom has chosen Southern Telecom to help expand the reach of its fiber footprint and its overall operations in the area of Macon, GA.

With the acquisition of fiber from Southern Telecom, USCarrier says it is able to expand access to current customers and extend its overall network reach, increasing reliability while creating additional network diversity. The fiber acquisition includes Southern Telecom's 11-mile Macon ring, which USCarrier says allows it to access new customers in Macon's central business area.

"Since its inception, the goal of USCarrier Telecom has been to offer route-diverse, SONET protected carrier-grade service to our customers, and the Macon central business district fiber ring has been a critical component in achieving that goal," comments Phil Forbes, executive vice president and COO of USCarrier Telecom.

"We've been impressed with USCarrier's network and business approach for some time and are pleased to add the company to Southern Telecom's growing customer base," adds Phil Franklin, business development manager with Southern Telecom. "The Macon project was a nice venture for us to partner on, as the combination of new fiber and existing fiber helped both companies expand their networks."
