NOVEMBER 20, 2006 VPIsystems (search for VPIsystems) announced today that Australian incumbent carrier Telstra Corp. (search for Telstra) has purchased its OnePlan network planning software system as a part of the carrier's ongoing transformation initiative. The design and planning software company simultaneously announced availability of the OnePlan product.

OnePlan is designed to offer communications service providers a single, cross-domain (geography, technology, discipline, and network domain) integrated capacity and network planning capability. Through its modular design, OnePlan provides a scalable system that can start as a single technology module and grow to a high-availability system spanning multiple network layers where OnePlan automates all network planning, engineering, and decommissioning activities.

"OnePlan is the result of years of development and collaboration with carriers around the globe," said Hank Firey, CEO, VPIsystems. "Our goal at the outset was simple -- give carriers a single software platform to plan every aspect of migration to next-generation networks. From planning technical architecture, through the delivery and management of new multi-media services, we wanted OnePlan to provide a single view into every piece of the puzzle. The result is the simplification of an incredibly complex planning and deployment process."

Telstra will use OnePlan to plan its next-generation IP-based network, including new digital access technologies, the metropolitan Ethernet aggregation network, and the IP core network. Implementation began in the third quarter of 2006.

Telstra embarked on a 3- to 5-year transformation following a comprehensive review of its operations in 2005 that evaluated everything from its customer-facing and back-office operations to its infrastructure. The Telstra transformation will result in the creation of a new next-generation network that will support the growing demand for IP-based services such as video on demand (VOD) and multimedia messaging (MMS).

"Telstra is transforming its business to deliver a '1-click, 1-touch, 1-button, 1-screen, 1-step solution' environment for customers and employees. The company's vision is a simpler IT environment that involves partnering with world-class suppliers using proven off-the-shelf solutions. We are pleased to welcome VPIsystems as one of our partners in the Operations Support Systems (OSS) transformation space," said John McInerney, director, IT transformation, Telstra.

The OnePlan software suite will provide Telstra with a common working environment, connecting teams -- from marketing to planning to outside systems integrators -- involved in viewing, designing, and planning the company's new network. OnePlan software comprises server and application modules that automate processes associated with network planning and management.

"The OnePlan system will transform Telstra's planning process and facilitate the roll out of a next-generation network that is able to respond rapidly and efficiently to the market's demands for IP services such as video," stated Firey. "Telstra is one of the world's first carriers to roll out cutting-edge, IP-based services on such a broad scale. We are proud we have been given the opportunity to play a role in its next-generation network build and to support those new services."
