January 10, 2006 Scottsdale, AZ -- According to a report from In-Stat, five major countries in Asia comprise the fastest developing regional broadband market, including the adoption of advanced FTTX in the residential broadband market, for both Fiber-to-the-Premise/Home (FTTP/FTTH) and Fiber-to-the-Neighborhood/Curb/Building (FTTN/FTTC/FTTB) implementations.

The high-tech market research firm contends that Asia as a whole, and in particular the growing China and Australian markets, provides "huge growth potential" for equipment and service providers "to claim a slice of the growing FTTX pie."

"Foreign investors may not need to build up networks or provide services on their own," maintains Victor Liu, In-Stat analyst. "Instead, content developers and value-added services providers may have better revenue prospects if they work closely with broadband service providers who lead the adoption of FTTX in those markets."

According to the report, in China, FTTC/N+ LAN is proving to be a cost-effective way to introduce broadband services to homes. Also, the report says that Japan has built up high-speed network infrastructures extending fiber to homes to deliver an array of voice, data, and multimedia applications, including increasingly popular VoIP services. The report also sees service providers in South Korea finding that online gaming, video-on-demand, and e-commerce services are "money-making applications," well-suited to the increased bandwidth of FTTX deployments.

The report, "Asia Pacific Embraces Residential FTTX Services," covers FTTX markets in Asian nations including Australia, China, Hong Kong, Japan, and South Korea. The report includes profiles of broadband providers and their FTTX strategies, as well as forecasts for FTTX subscribers. The report also projects service revenues for each country and the region as a whole. The report is priced at $2,495.
