ZTE selects PMC-Sierra's metro transport architecture

JANUARY 21, 2009 -- ZTE Corp. has selected PMC-Sierra's CHESS metro transport architecture for its Unitrans series of optical network products.

JANUARY 21, 2009 -- ZTE Corp. (search for ZTE) has selected PMC-Sierra's (search for PMC-Sierra) CHESS metro transport architecture for its Unitrans product line. ZTE says the Unitrans series of optical network products is widely deployed by over 250 operators in more than 90 countries worldwide.

According to ZTE, the CHESS family enables it to provide a modular, scalable metro transport architecture with reduced power and cost that addresses service providers' demand for higher levels of integration and flexibility. These benefits improve fiber efficiency, reduce capital and operational costs, and enable service providers to introduce and more effectively manage both new Ethernet and existing T1/E1 services.

"PMC-Sierra's field-proven CHESS chipset family is the best solution to boost network capacity, enable cost-effective upgrades, and deliver new services required by carriers," contends Ke Chu, chief system architecture engineer of ZTE Corp.'s Wireline Product R&D Institute. "Triple Play service deployment continues to drive up bandwidth requirements and PMC-Sierra's best-in-class technology, software re-use, and technical support gives us significant time-to-market and development cost advantages."

PMC-Sierra says its CHESS III chipset for aggregating, grooming and transporting 2.5- and 10-Gbps metro services offers a range of STS-1/AU-3 cross-connect solutions as well as a highly integrated framer for MSPPs and ROADMs. The CHESS Wideband chipset provides highly integrated VT/TU grooming that enables cost-effective in-service upgrades to micro-MSPPs, MSPPs and Optical Cross Connect systems, claim company representatives.
