U.S. Commerce Secretary Ron Brown took part in the opening of the Telecommunications Industry Association-sponsored U.S. Information Technology Office in Beijing, China. Brown called the office a significant step toward promoting trade and cooperation between the United States and China in the information technology industries. The office is aimed at making the Chinese telecommunications and information technology markets more accessible to U.S. industry. It provides information on government policy and regulations, locating joint-venture partners and distributors, organizing trade shows and missions, facilitating technology transfer and offering market information. The office is a joint effort of the American Electronics Association, Software Publishers Association and the TIA.
