Market research and forecast consultancy ElectroniCast Consultants has issued a new report that projects global sales of fiber-optic circulators will grow at an average annual rate of 7.84% between 2011 and 2016.

Market research and forecast consultancy ElectroniCast Consultants has issued a new report that projects global sales of fiber-optic circulators will grow at an average annual rate of 7.84% between 2011 and 2016.

ElectroniCasts points out that fiber-optic circulators find use in a wide variety of applications. These include DWDMs and optical add/drop multiplexers (OADMs), EDFAs, fiber-optic sensors, optical time domain reflectometers (OTDR), bi-directional transmission systems, dispersion compensators, and other devices.

The Americas led in terms of relative consumption in 2011. However, ElectroniCast believes the Asia Pacific region (APAC) region, spurred by “greenfield” telecommunication deployment, will take the market share lead by the end of 2013. The consumption of fiber optic circulators in the Europe, Middle East and Africa region (EMEA) is forecast to lag behind APAC, but still grow faster than the Americas.

ElectroniCast divides the fiber-optic circulator market in three groups:

  1. three ports
  2. four ports
  3. more than four ports.

In terms of worldwide unit volume, the three-port fiber-optic circulators will represent an estimated 88% of the market share in 2012. Well over 80% of these fiber-optic circulators in 2012 will be used in telecommunication applications, ElectroniCast expects. In fact, telecommunications will remain the dominant application for fiber-optic circulators of all configurations throughout the 2-11-2016 forecast period, according to the report.

This market forecast report is available immediately from ElectroniCast Consultants.
