Greece's OTE selects Alcatel-Lucent for terrestrial, submarine network upgrade
APRIL 10, 2008 -- Alcatel-Lucent (search for Alcatel-Lucent) is upgrading and expanding the existing transport infrastructure of the Hellenic Telecommunications Organization (OTE SA), Greece's leading service provider, as part of a project valued at more than € 12 million. Alcatel-Lucent says its optical equipment will support OTE's program to extend the distribution of high-speed services in major urban and regional areas.
Alcatel-Lucent has undertaken the upgrade of OTE's existing optical backbone routes--already based on Alcatel-Lucent's next-generation SDH and DWDM technologies--the upgrade of the submarine link between Bari, Italy, and Corfu, Greece, as well as the rollout of new optical multi�service rings throughout Greece.
"The advanced flexibility, aggregation capabilities, and scalability offered by our optical solutions will help OTE accomplish its market objectives," contends Frederic Rose, president of Alcatel�Lucent's activities in Europe, Africa, and Asia.
The Alcatel-Lucent is providing its 1626 Light Manager (LM), 1678 Metro Core Connect (MCC), and Optical Multi-Service Node (OMSN) systems. Furthermore, Alcatel-Lucent confirms it is providing a comprehensive range of network integration and support services, including installation and commissioning, maintenance, and training.
