Fujitsu takes aim at MSO/CATV market with breakthrough in digital video transport

12 May 2003 Philadelphia, PA Lightwave--Fujitsu Network Communications Inc., today announced its expansion into the cable television market with the addition of a digital video broadcast-asynchronous serial interface (DVB-ASI) to its FLASHWAVE 4500 multiservice transport platform.

12 May 2003 Philadelphia, PA Lightwave--Fujitsu Network Communications Inc., today announced its expansion into the cable television market with the addition of a digital video broadcast-asynchronous serial interface (DVB-ASI) to its FLASHWAVE 4500 multiservice transport platform.

Widely deployed across North America for telecommunications applications, FLASHWAVE 4500 integrates next-generation SONET (OC-3 through OC-192), asynchronous (DS-1 and DS-3) and Ethernet (10 Mbits/sec through Gigabit Ethernet) interfaces with advanced switching capabilities. With the addition of the DVB-ASI ports, this technology will enable service providers to deliver digital broadband video, broadband data, video on demand, telephony and other business services over converged networks.

DVB-ASI is the most common industry interface for interconnecting equipment located at a cable network headend or primary hub. Integrating DVB-ASI ports onto the FLASHWAVE 4500 platform eliminates the space and cost of expensive converter boxes. Each DVB-ASI card supports eight physical DVB-ASI coax inputs, allowing a single DVB-ASI card to transport over 500 channels of digital video. Fujitsu will be demonstrating this technology at Cable-Tec Expo 2003 in Philadelphia on May 12-14 (booth 523, Hall C).
