ADVA Optical Networking today announced that incumbent European carrier Telecom Italia has deployed ADVA's Fiber Service Platform (FSP) 3000 product to build up metro network infrastructure in selected Italian cities. The FSP 3000 is marketed with the Siemens Waveline MetroNet label.
Sold to Telecom Italia by Siemens IC Networks, ADVA's FSP 3000 product and Siemens' Telecommunication Network Management System (TNMS) software have been deployed in an eight-node ring network in Rome. Telecom Italia is also deploying additional rings in selected Italian cities starting in late 2002. The metro ring networks utilize ADVA's DWDM technology to deploy new Gigabit Ethernet services and address fiber relief concerns.
"Telecom Italia represents a significant deployment of our FSP 3000 in metro core network infrastructure at a large European incumbent carrier," contends Juergen Hansjosten, chief sales officer at ADVA Optical Networking. "Telecom Italia conducted a thorough analysis of solutions available in the market, and clearly selected our product because of its ability to meet their fiber exhaustion requirements today with low total cost of ownership, as well as scale to offer their end customers managed wavelength services tomorrow. We look forward to building a long-term relationship with Telecom Italia as a key carrier customer, and duplicating this success with Siemens throughout the European market," he adds.
