14 November 2002 -- RAD Data Communications is opening a wholly-owned subsidiary in China.

RAD Data Communications Equipment Co (Beijing) Ltd., will provide localised production and repair services, and allow RAD to increase the Chinese content of its products through additional sourcing of components.

Localised production of products will focus initially on those that are selling in particularly high volume, such as xDSL modems based on MSDSL and SHDSL technologies and digital interface converters.

"The Beijing operation is the platform for the localisation of our operations and will serve to further solidify our market leadership in the access network arena in China," said Jeremy Zimman, RAD's Director of Operations for Greater China.

"With the completion of the telecom market reorganisation in China, the access network build-out is set to grow exponentially in the coming years, and the ideal time to launch our new strategy is now."

"This is a milestone in RAD's long-term commitment to the Chinese market," Zimman explained. "China was the first country in which RAD opened an overseas office outside of the United States, and we now have three offices in addition to our new subsidiary."

"Even though the global telecom market is currently experiencing a downturn, RAD is increasing our investment in strategic markets, one of the foremost of which is China."
