Ericsson, Stockholm, has established a firm foothold in the potentially large market represented by the People?s Republic of China. The company has founded a joint venture with Wuhan Research Institute to develop, manufacture, and market Synchronous Digital Hierarchy transport network systems for the Chinese marketplace. The new venture, called Wuhan Yangtze Ericsson Telecommunication Co. Ltd., will begin production next month. Ericsson indicates the new company may expand its product line to address multimedia networks in the future. Wuhan Research Institute is China?s largest supplier of transmission and fiber-optic equipment. It has been working with Ericsson since 1995 under a technology transfer agreement.
