Systran restructures management

Susan Chicione is vice president and chief operating officer, Data Communications Products Div., Frank McKain is vice president and director of human resources, and Tom Mallision is vice president and director of administration at Systran Corp. (Dayton, OH) as part of a management restructuring. Lynn Trainor, founder and chief executive of the company, also assumes the role of chief executive for Systran Federal Corp. (SFC), which was formed from the former Products and Government Services divisions. Ken Baker will take over the daily operations of the SFC organization as president and chief operating officer.

Bryson G. Edmonds has been elected vice president of BE&K Inc. (Birmingham, AL) and chief executive of the company`s subsidiary, Viatech Services. He most recently served as assistant to the president and joined the company as a cost engineer in 1984.

Thomas T. van Overbeek has been named chief executive of Wavtrace Inc. (Bellevue, WA). He accepted the position after working with the company for several months as a consultant. Before joining the company, van Overbeek was president of Cornerstone Imaging/Input Software and prior to that, president of Paradise Systems.

William B. Dunmyer has been appointed national sales manager for Larus Corp. (San Jose, CA). He has more than 20 years of sales, marketing, and business development experience in the telecommunications industry. He has held vice president of sales and marketing positions with Astounding Technologies/SSE Technologies and Vtech Communications Co.

Dianna Jasperson has been appointed international sales manager for Nanometer Technologies (Atascadero, CA). She will oversee all sales representatives and distributors worldwide.

Bruce Bonini has been appointed vice president of North American sales at EXFO Electro-Optical Engineering Inc. (Vanier, QC, Canada). He has held positions with Laser Precision (now GN Nettest), LPC, and WWG. Bonini will relocate to the company`s Dallas office.

Pearse Flynn has been appointed executive vice president and general manager for Europe, Middle East, and Africa at Newbridge Networks (Kanata, ON, Canada). Working from the company`s offices in Maidenhead, he will lead sales, marketing, and customer service operations in those regions. Flynn joins the company from Compaq Computers, where he held several executive positions over the past 11 years.

Peter Pilon has been named vice president of manufacturing and engineering at SpecTran Communication Fiber Technologies (Sturbridge, MA). In addition to manufacturing and engineering operations, he will be responsible for quality, materials, and facility services.

David Hess has been appointed chief executive of Long Distance International Ltd. (LDI--Ft. Lauderdale, FL). He joins LDI with experience at companies such as WCT West Coast Communications, Sprint, United Telephone Systems, and MCI. Most recently, Hess was president and chief operating officer of Total-Tel Communications, where he was responsible for growing the company`s overall revenues from $40 million to a current run rate of $140 million.

Dan Poranski has been named vice president of marketing at Artel Video Systems Inc. (Marlborough, MA). He has more than 17 years of marketing and sales experience.

John Barton has been named president at Wave Optics Inc. (Mountainview, CA). He has been senior vice president at the company since 1992.

J. Thomas Gruenwald has been appointed vice president and general manager of the Network Solutions and Broadband Media groups at Tellabs (Lisle, IL). Previously, Gruenwald was vice president of Strategic Resources. Also, Stephen M. McCarthy has been named vice president of Global Solutions and Service. McCarthy was senior vice president of ADP`s Major Accounts Central Div.

Cary C. Combs has joined Siemens Information and Communication Networks Inc. (Boca Raton, FL) as vice president of sales for the Optical Networks Div. An 18-year veteran of the telecommunications industry, Combs was most recently regional sales director for Alcatel Network Systems.

Roger L. Boeding has joined Fiber Options Inc. (Bohemia, NY) as western sales manager. He joins the company with more than 17 years` experience in the sales and marketing of security products, including closed-circuit television and electronic access control.

Jean-Luc Abaziou has been appointed president and chief executive of Torrent Networking Technologies (Silver Spring, MD). He was president and chief executive of Alcatel Data Networks.

Robert O`Brien has joined Alcatel USA (Plano, Texas) as vice president of communications. He has nearly 30 years of telecommunications experience. Most recently, he served as vice president of media relations at Nortel.
