AFS optically interconnects high-growth cities out West

JUNE 19, 2008 -- The four-market network supports long-haul transport between Las Vegas and Reno, NV, Salt Lake City, UT; and Boise, ID, allowing businesses to interconnect remote operations by way of AFS's high-speed logical ring.

JUNE 19, 2008 -- American Fiber Systems (AFS; search for AFS), a provider of metro fiber connectivity, has announced new direct fiber-optic links between high-profile, high-traffic metropolitan cities in the western US. The four-market network supports long-haul transport between Las Vegas and Reno, NV, Salt Lake City, UT; and Boise, ID, allowing businesses to interconnect remote operations by way of AFS's high-speed logical ring.

The new service offering from AFS includes Ethernet Private Line service as well as traditional SONET private line service. AFS offers a variety of service options to benefit businesses with traffic demand between the four cities, such as law firms wishing to connect offices between Boise and Salt Lake City and gaming operations between Las Vegas, Reno, and Carson City. The long-haul interconnectivity augments AFS's current metro transport services.

Businesses, especially those with large amounts of sensitive data, have had a relatively short list of choices for long-haul support to and from these markets. AFS says the new links now give them the option of a reliable and redundant network to connect their remote offices and transfer large batches of data. Regional businesses also benefit from the built-in ease involved in acquiring additional capacity as needed, the provider says.

"All four of these cities are experiencing very good business growth," says Dave Rusin, CEO, American Fiber Systems. "And we've made the financial and operational investment to support them in every way possible. We're gladly stepping up to manage long-haul interconnectivity because our customers have asked for an easy-to-install and highly reliable alternative for intercity connectivity in this region."
