Geyser Networks, Inc., a developer of advanced multi-service optical solutions for next generation networks, announced a suite of new service capabilities available on their OSM 4800 product with Flexband technology. Included are:

* Real-time Bandwidth on Demand: Flexband technology provides the capability to adjust the allocated SONET bandwidth in real-time based upon the traffic demand without any additional circuit provisioning.

* Pay-Per-Megabit: The OSM 4800Eis the first platform to offer service agnostic, pay-per-megabit capability. As compared to IP based solutions, Flexband technology enables traffic usage monitoring for all service types.

* High Quality Voice and Video over IP: By eliminating the intermediate routing points, Flexband technology eliminates the delay and jitter usually associated with VoIP and Video over IP solutions, while still providing the expected bandwidth savings.

The OSM 4800 with Flexband technology delivers high quality voice, data, and video content on a single network infrastructure. The OSM 4800 enables a service provider to increase the network's revenue-generating capability and, at the same time, deliver multiple services in a cost-efficient manner. As a result, the service provider is able to maximize the Profit Per Megabit for their network traffic.

Geyser Networks' Flexband technology is a hardware implementation of Virtual Concatenation, as defined in the ITU-T G.707 standard. The ANSI TIX1.5 Working Group currently is working to standardize High Order and Low Order virtual concatenation. Flexband supports Dynamic Bandwidth Allocation (DBA) protocols, which increase or decrease the bandwidth in the pipe, utilizing only the bandwidth needed or actual traffic. The whole process can be achieved in one-millisecond to ensure no loss of data. Flexband builds onto SONET's strength to achieve a TDM-like QoS. This technology makes it possible for service providers to offer a dedicated, flexible bandwidth pipe to satisfy the bandwidth requirements of any traffic type including voice, data and video content. Flexband's agility allows over-subscription of the network bandwidth by allowing multiple subscribers to share a common bandwidth pool.
