Open Telecommunications Ltd. (AX: OTT), a diversified global provider of Internet Protocol (IP) software, announced it has been awarded a major multi-million US dollar contract to sell and integrate its openCI software product to Williams Communications LLC (NYSE: WMB) in the United States.

Williams is a first-tier North American telecommunications carrier. The company is an exclusively carrier-focused fiber-optic network operator. Williams provides its network customers with rich communications solutions for data, voice and video. Williams will deploy openCI across its entire North American network as well as its points of presence in Europe and Asia, which interconnect with its North American network.

openCI provides telecommunications network operators with the capability to process short-to-medium term planning, design and overall provisioning of their networks. It supports the ongoing business processes of operations planning, network design and provisioning of infrastructure and services in telecommunications networks. Williams has sought a single solution to support its network management systems, along with more efficient provisioning of its network infrastructure and network services.

The contract with Williams broadly provides that OT will:

-- license its openCI software to Williams;

-- undertake further software development work to tailor openCI to Williams' business needs;

-- integrate the software into the Williams' network environment; and

-- provide maintenance and support of the product for at least a three-year period.

Open Telecommunications Managing Director, Wayne Passlow said, "This contract is the first major US business win for OT since it began establishing its United States' presence approximately six months ago."

Williams will become a key reference site for openCI in North America. Revenue from the contract will be recognized this year. Maintenance and support revenue will generated over a three-year period.

Other major telecommunications companies using openCI include Cable & Wireless Optus and Telstra in Australia, Embratel in Brazil and Libertel in the Netherlands.

The Company also announced that Telinvest Pty Ltd., the company that holds the Passlow family's shareholding in Open Telecommunications Ltd., has transferred 13,000,000 OTT shares out of Telinvest. This transfer was made by Telinvest in an off-market transfer to parties not associated in any way with Telinvest or the Passlow family. Wayne Passlow OTT's and Telinvest's managing director said, "Telinvest has no current intention to dispose of further OTT shares. Telinvest may consider selling shares to a strategic investor if it is in the interest of OTT shareholders to introduce such a shareholder to it share register."
