21 May 2003 High Wycombe, UK--Tele 2 Sverige AB, the leading Swedish alternate telecoms service provider, has chosen the next-generation SDH platform from Tellabs to expand its Internet and intranet services.

Offering Ethernet capabilities integrated into Tellabs' SDH solution, the 6300 managed transport series will enable Tele2 to reduce costs, quickly connect customers to fast Ethernet and deliver high-speed data and voice services.

Tele2 is using the new Tellabs 6350 switch node, a digital cross-connect with market-leading density, and the 6310 edge node for access and customer premise applications. Tellabs will also provide Tele2 with service support and customised training to enable rapid deployment and help speed Tele2's time-to-revenue.

Anders Gustafsson, president of Tellabs International, said, "This is the most cost-efficient way to migrate an existing SDH network into a truly converged network for transport of voice and data on the same infrastructure, which will highly benefit our customers."

The Tellabs 6300 managed transport series is the next generation of its carrier-class SDH platform. The series enables network operators to leverage their existing SDH investments and open up new revenue streams by integrating optical Ethernet services into their installed base of SDH transport equipment. The modular units feature an extremely small footprint combined with high functional density.

New products
- The 6340 switch node is among the first products in the industry to offer Generic Framing Procedure (GFP), a standardised method of transporting Ethernet using SDH, enabling interoperability among equipment. It is a multi-service provisioning platform (MSPP) that leverages an existing infrastructure to transport and deliver voice, high-speed data and video-on-demand services.
- The 6310 edge node is a small add/drop multiplexer with multiple applications for access and customer premises. These applications include 2Mbit/s, 34/45Mbit/s, Fast Ethernet, and ATM services.
- The 6350 switch node, which is a digital cross-connect with market-leading density that handles voice, leased line and value-added data services. It enables network operators to generate new revenue streams and lower operating costs.

Tele2 AB
Tele2 AB, formed in 1993, offers fixed and mobile telephony, data network and Internet services under the brands Tele2, Tango and Comviq to 16.8 million people in 22 countries.
