German test giant Wandel & Goltermann Management Holding GmbH (Eningen, Germany) and Wavetek Corp. (San Diego, CA) of the United States announced that they have reached an agreement to merge, forming what spokesmen claim would be the second-largest communications test company in the world. The merger, expected to close by July 16, 1998, will create a company with annual revenues of more than $400 million. The agreement will pair Wandel & Goltermann`s strength in telecommunications and data communications test equipment with Wavetek`s expertise in cable television and wireless communications testing. The parent company of the new organization will be incorporated in the United States, with corporate offices in Germany and the United States. Terence Gooding, chairman and chief executive of Wavetek, will be the new company`s chairman of the board, while Albrecht Wandel, chairman of the supervisory board of Wandel & Goltermann, will serve as vice chairman.
