Avvio Networks debuts AM2558 SONET OC-48 Muxponder

SEPTEMBER 9, 2008 -- The AM2558 module multiplexes up to 16 OC-3 or four OC-12 data streams onto an OC-48 data stream. The number of ports that are multiplexed onto the OC-48 data stream can be dynamically switched to either OC-3 or OC-12 input speeds as long as the total aggregate input does not exceed the OC-48 capacity.

SEPTEMBER 9, 2008 -- The AM2558 module from Avvio Networks (search for Avvio) multiplexes up to 16 OC-3 or four OC-12 data streams onto an OC-48 data stream. The number of ports that are multiplexed onto the OC-48 data stream can be dynamically switched to either OC-3 or OC-12 input speeds as long as the total aggregate input does not exceed the OC-48 capacity. For example, the AM2558 multiplex 16 OC-3 data streams, four OC-12s, or eight OC-3s and two OC-12s.

According to Avvio Networks' Sales Manager Rick Madden, "The AM2558 module can be used with our small footprint 2RU A2050 chassis so it's perfect for tight spaces. You can multiplex 40 OC-3 signals onto three OC-48 lines in one A2050 chassis. That's a lot of capacity. The Element Management System (EMS) GUI-based SNMP software supports the AM2558."

One popular application for the AM2558 is as an optical add/drop multiplexer to collect and distribute multiple OC-3/12 lines in office parks or within buildings and transport to the central office. The AM2558 offers an optional permanent OC-48 backhaul to another remote central office.

The AM2558 can also be configured as an OC-3 to OC-12 multiplexer or as an OC-48 regenerator. The AM2558 can support APS on the OC-48 interface.

The AM2558 module is available now. It is part of the A2500 product line.
