There's change at the top of optical transport systems vendor Coriant, which has named Shaygan Kheradpir CEO and chairman of the board. The former Juniper Networks CEO replaces Pat DiPietro, who will relinquish his duties as president and CEO and return to being an operating partner at Coriant's owner, Marlin Equity Partners. He'll also serve as vice chairman of Coriant.
In some ways, Kheradpir and DiPietro will swap seats, as the former most recently was an operating partner at Marlin as well. He began his executive carrier with GTE Corp., then moved to Verizon as executive vice president and chief information officer. He then entered the banking field as chief operations and technology officer for Barclays, then headed Juniper Networks. He assumed the operating partner role at Marlin earlier this year.
DiPietro was named president and CEO of Coriant in 2014 and tasked with integrating the various pieces Marlin Equity Partners has gathered to create Coriant (see "Marlin Equity Partners reshuffles executive deck ahead of Coriant, Tellabs merger"). These included Sycamore Networks, the optical communications business of Nokia Siemens Networks, and Tellabs (see "Sycamore Networks Solutions begins new chapter,""Nokia Siemens Networks to sell optical network hardware business to Marlin Equity Partners," and "Tellabs next Marlin Equity Partners buy"). The transition from DiPietro to Kheradpir signals that this integration and portfolio development phase of the company has completed, said a Coriant source contacted at ECOC 2015 in Valencia, Spain.
