June 3, 2005 Hickory, NC -- Corning Cable Systems has introduced a platform for bringing optical fiber to each floor, or all the way to individual residential units, in multi-dwelling unit (MDU) applications.
The MDU platform is part of the company's Evolant Advantage access network platform, and features factory-terminated products that the company says can reduce installation time and deployment costs. The company says its factory-terminated products, deployed from a central switch to the customer premises and optimized for MDU applications, allow carriers to efficiently add subscribers signing up for services on an as-needed basis.
The company says the platform comprehensively meets the requirements of most deployment scenarios, accounting for unique aspects of individual MDU applications including building size, construction codes, and aesthetics.
The platform's products include:
* The OptiTect Advantage fiber distribution cabinet, which the company says provides everything necessary to distribute from 32 to 864 distribution fibers. Available in both indoor versions for large MDUs, and outdoor versions for small- and medium-sized MDUs, each version features the same intuitive fiber management and internal layout for commonality with installers and customers, according to the company. Factory pre-connectorization and installation of distribution and feeder cables ensure efficient field installation.
* The OptiSheath Advantage terminal for MDU applications, which the company says comes in a rugged, low-profile interconnect between the distribution network and outdoor drop cables for outdoor applications, or between the in-building riser cable and indoor drop cables for indoor applications.
* The OptiWay Advantage Wall Outlet, which the company says provides a secure, aesthetically pleasing way to terminate drop fibers in an MDU.
* OptiFit Advantage drop cable assemblies, which according to the company are pre-terminated drop cables designed for fast, reliable interconnection between individual dwelling units and a terminal, for outdoor applications with small MDUs. The company says its flame-retardant interconnect cables provide the same functionality for indoor applications such as for multi-story MDUs.
The company also offers feeder/distribution and drop cables to meet the requirements for outdoor, as well as in-building riser and horizontal, applications.
The company will be showcasing the platform in booth #19039 at next week's Supercomm 2005.
